VERSIONA THYSSEN 2024
✨Tenderness and Resistance✨.
The versioned work is entitled ‘Lot and his daughters’, by Orazio Gentileschi. It is a biblical passage from Genesis, in which Lot and his daughters have moved from the city of Segor, where they lived after their departure from Sodom. In it, the women, fearful of having no offspring and being left alone in the world, decide to get their father drunk and sleep with him to ensure that they have successors. Their father had also previously tried to offer his daughters to be raped, luckily without success. So I think it is yet another attempt by the bible to demonise women and brand them as evil and temptresses, when they are really acts of panic and a product of patriarchal oppression and religion.
In my case, I wanted to give it quite a big twist by talking about the circles of affection, mutual support and networks of friendships that keep us safe and afloat. In my version, I represented a group of friends putting on make-up, getting ready and being themselves to attend the march of orgullo. In short, a group of people who have had to flee from a lot of violence and who have had to flee from a lot of violence and who have had to flee a lot of violence, people who have had to run away from society for a long time (like Lot ran away from Sodom), but they don't have to hide anymore and can love, laugh and BE how and where they want.
